Watch out, NZ Ladies: Jo Watmore and her team of badasses are coming to get you! :D
If I ever end up watching fencing again though, shoot me.
And Chris Boardman was right: that final descent in the road race was dangerous. Apparently one bloke only got caught by the safety netting otherwise he was taking the express route down the mountain, and how that Dutch rider escaped with relatively minor injuries, I don't know. Her flip over the bars was horrific.
And Brazil's water makes the Thames look like the Fountain of Purity. Kayaking? Kacking would be closer, by the looks.
Someone needs to stick a shark behind some of our swimmers, though. Peaty and Carlin apart they're absolutely miles off the pace (though no one was catching Katie Ledecky, so Carlin did well).

Do you know how medical issues are handled? Do countries send their own medical staff or do they just rely on the host country? I never really thought of it before and this incident made me curious about it.
I think MOST rely on what's available to the country.

But, I remember way back, it was an Olympics in a country that did not have great medical care. My memory is so foggy on this, but I THINK it was american was badly hurt and a very popular Russian athlete who traveled with his own medical supplies, he made sure the American guy had proper equipment, fresh needles, sterile dressings things like that.

I'll go Google and see if I can remember who this was.

"Petrenko helped American pair figure skater Katie Wood recover when she suffered a head injury from a fall during a show in Odessa in 1990, and he brought to her hospital much-needed medical supplies from his own home pharmacy"

I wasn't surprised when you posted his name. It seems to me, he has a reputation of being a very good person.

The first two Canadian medals were earned by a 16 year old that goes to the high school I went to. She trains at the pool built for last year's PanAm games.

I'm sure Mayor Tory will take credit for her wins.....but Mayor Ford was in power when that was built.[/spoiler ]
