I have this book and read it. It's a good read. Enjoy!next up:
This sounds similar to a book I read last year called Snowblind by Christopher Golden.8. CHILLS
by Rick Hautala
About the Book:
"A blizzard is slamming into Vermont, but it doesn't matter to Meg Clarke. She knows she'll be trapped in her music store in the shopping mall overnight with a small crew of her employees doing one final inventory.
But after they're locked in for the night, they realize this isn't a normal winter storm. Ghastly faces appear in the store windows and disappear in a swirl of wind-blown snow. Dark, mysterious figures loom in and out of sight in the darkened corridors of the mall. Ghostly voices shriek inside the howling blasts of winter wind. Soon Meg and the others are besieged by something too terrifying to imagine.
Before the night is over, a terrible secret from Meg's past will come back to haunt her and the group's only chance to survive will be to go out into the raging storm that's trying to kill them..."
My thoughts:
While this book took the scenic route to get to the meat of the story, once I got there, the action came fast and the story had a nice flow. After the last book I read, it was a refreshing palette cleanser. Thank you for the no-long-drawn-out-young-adult-sex-scene-in-the-face-of-danger crap that horror seems to feel is necessary to entice an audience. When it's necessary for the story, it's necessary. And when it's not? Thanks for not forcing it.
I seem to be one that is always reminded of other things when I read. I guess that's just one of those things that happens when you spend your time with your nose in a book or your face plastered against the TV screen. I saw many influences throughout the tale, but again, it stands on its own two feet as a very serviceable story.
Quick read, loved the short chapters. Perfect cover art by Cortney Skinner.
This trapped-in-a-snowstorm theme has definitely had its time in the spotlight for sure. This sounds similar to a book I read last year called Snowblind by Christopher Golden.
I read this one, too, Deej. I really like Pronzini's writing. This is one of the new 'Nameless Detective' books. I've read three of the 'Nameless Detective' tales now and want to get them all.Next up:
