The book is usually always better (more insight into what the characters are thinking, etc.) but they did a d*mn fine job with the film. Kathy Bates took home an Oscar for her riveting performance after all. She walked a very fine line- if she had been a little more over the top it wouldn't have worked but she kept it from becoming ridiculous.
I like the book better but Kathy Bates really brought Annie to life, her little rants about not getting out of the cockle-doodie car and such really make her the perfect fit for Annie's character
