The above is an oldie but a goodie, directed by Kiwi Geoff Murphy, (Smash Palace), back in 1985. I love the atmosphere and the grittiness of this film; it has a good twist and is devoid of CGI special effects. The late Bruno Lawrence does an excellent job as the last man on earth (though he isn't..), and the visuals are stunning...most of it was filmed in in either Auckland or Hamilton, NZ. An original and Kiwi classic in New Zealand's relatively early years of film-making. The opening and closing sequences are especially haunting and memorable.
The other well known Kiwi director of the era, whom I think did great work, is Roger Donaldson (The Bounty, No Way Out).
Undervalued, the both of them!
