As you can see, if the pics get through, it's a 2-storey study. Most of the harbooks are on the first floor. Most paperbacks on second with the gaming table (yes, I'm a board gamer). Most of the shelves are double-stacked so in many of the pictures you're only seeing what's out front.

I wish I had a 2 story office with gaming tables.
Interesting.Reading On A Kindle Is Making You Less Smart
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
I find reading (a real book) before bed is a nice relaxing ritual that helps me to sleep better.Interesting.
Though I think I remember stuff just fine either way.
I like the “very gradual unfolding of paper as you progress through a story is some kind of sensory offload, supporting the visual sense of progress when you’re reading.” bit though.
Still don't have the money for the built-in bookcases I want. But that's the way it is. The cheap ones I have do the job for now.

If they keep the books off the floor, out of the wet, and out of the way, they're doing the job just fine
BTW, have you considered doing something like IKEA basics lining a wall (or walls) and then framed with trim to fill in the gaps? We have a friend that did that (homeschoolers, so they have a HUGE amount of books) and it looks like gorgeous built ins. Thinking of doing that when we get done with the kitchen and bathroom re-dos.
I seem to be getting more out of Hearts in Atlantis this time around - I read about 20 minutes to half an hour every night (either before bed or while soaking in a hot tub)."Recognizing the need for better comprehension is one of the factors in the development of the slow reading movement, which aims to help the brain “reengage with linear reading.”" Also interesting. I remember a guy telling my Pastor once that he was learning speed reading so he could read his Bible faster. Pastor said, "Don't do that. Slow down." Time spent with a text is part of the process of comprehending and building the framework in your mind, seeing the setting. King has a knack, as do many good writers, of picking out a few details here and there, and focusing the mind on them. Then you automatically build the surroundings around it. Hemingway's "True at First Light" has a passage in it that did this in such a powerful way I almost felt I was literally seeing the environment.

Do you soak in the hot-tub before, or after you go to the gym? I'm just asking because it's advisable after a long work-out, to sit in an ice-tub for ten minutes.I seem to be getting more out of Hearts in Atlantis this time around - I read about 20 minutes to half an hour every night (either before bed or while soaking in a hot tub).
As a collector its Hardback. As a reader e-book. Paperbacks are just too cheap feeling.
I know what you mean! Used to be first the hardback was published and then 6-12 months later the mass market paperback would be out. But now, there has to be an oversized trade paperback published after the hardback and then the mass market.Paperback for me. I started buying them as a teenager at TG&Y stores, and I've kept up the tradition. Unfortunately, it takes way longer for the mass market paperbacks to come out than it used to.
But they're always worth the wait. I've never bought a hard bound King book.

That is starting to drive me crazy too. I'm not sure what the point of trade paperback is to tell the truth. In the case of something like 11-22-63, a thick trade paperback is way too thick for paperback.I know what you mean! You may as well get the hard back. Then the mass market paperback takes forever before it's released.
I also don't want to get the e-book versions, because I want an actual book I can keep and put on the shelf.
