There is a fun experiment listed in the comments section courtesy of johnsmithersonjr3rd

"Download some software for your phone that lets the Camera relay ALL pixel events (with a base level cutoff). Then you cover your lense with multiple layers of tape, and leave it in a box for a while. This lets you see many high energy particle strikes on the camera CCD panel.

You'll see that they aren't rare events. In Mars' atmosphere they're even more common."
