Yesterday the supermarket was a madhouse in anticipation of the ice. I got a 6500 watt generator after last winter, and just filled and tested out the propane fireplace in anticipation of Iceageddon. I was ready. Well we got the ice, but not enough to put everyone into zombie apocalypse mode. Damn, just lots of aggravation!

We've had temps in the teens and ice storms in the Dallas/Fort Worth area since Thursday night. No snow, just freezing sleet. It was still warm last week so most of our trees still have their leaves. As the ice accumulated on the leaves, branches hung lower and lower. We watched helplessly as limbs tore away and dropped :( There were tons of power outages due to the ice laden trees falling over electric wires... we only lost power for 6 hours but many people haven't had power for 3 days. It's currently 34 degrees and much of the ice is melting.

All the overpasses became iced over quickly too. Many people got stuck and had to spend the night in their vehicles. We have too many lousy overpasses. I do not like overpasses. If I'm going to be 12 stories high, I want to be in a building. It takes me 20 to 25 minutes longer than my hubby to get from Dallas to the farm because I go around the overpasses, I won't drive on them... even in dry weather. The pic is of the Dallas high 5 which I avoid like the plague.

Cold. But there was only a dusting of snow overnight so I did not have to shovel the drive. Yay. But I got to work in Dollar Bay and there's a Houghton County sheriff's deputy sitting in his idling car, pulls forward before I get out of the truck and since I was already stepping out I continued and leaned down to hear what he had to say. The property is secured, he tells me, there is a police investigation. New tenants had moved into the trailer, part of the job site I'm working, the other this old Bunny Bread garage (Everybody loves Bunny Bread!)...so I told him I didn't look forward to working today, anyway. Truck had 6 degrees and glory, the sun is coming out. Roads are ice-matt covered and heard on the radio that we're to get inches today, inches tonight, so on so forth. I dunno what happened at the trailer...although the owner's mother (the owner lives in Colorado) told me she saw vehicles and an ambulance there last night...young couple, newlyweds had moved in...from Riverside, California. She is from Iran...he was evasive about where he is/was from...understandable, give the times. I hope nothing too serious has happened but imagination conjures all manner of wrong. So...I'm home for a bit...have some inside work in Hancock and will try to set that up a bit later.
