Right! What a clown. Well at least he provided us with some entertainment. I feel sorry for him. Enough said.

I don't know that "pecking order" is accurate, but the reality is that a lot of these folks know each other and they're friends. Little has changed in that regard in the almost four years I was away from the board, and is not likely to change for me . . . or you . . . or anyone. This would be true anywhere you went on the internet, and you're not likely to make much headway throwing around terms like "silly" and "obsequious," no matter how many A's you did or didn't get.
Here's a tip an old writer taught me: Don't tell me how smart you are. Show me.
I'll tell you a quick story if you've got the time:
Once, in the before time, in the long long ago, when the forum was different but many of the people were the same, there was this kid who had a lot to say (no . . . not me).
I don't remember the kid's screen name or what he was so upset about, but I do know that he prefaced a lengthy screed that I'm going to guess was all about how he could do things so much better, by saying the following:
"I am a tenured don at Oxford."
That was the first thing he said. First post. First sentence. Maybe someone else besides me remembers that.
He went on to very quickly dispel any notion that he could ever hope to do anything at Oxford beyond sweeping the floors (if even that). Perhaps his name was Don. I don't know, but what I do know was that he was hooted unmercifully. Not because his opinions differed from the "mainstream." It's King's website. If you're surprised that people here like most everything he does, then you must spend a lot of time with your mouth open.
No. He was hooted off -- I don't remember ever seeing a second post -- because people couldn't take him seriously because he led with braggadocio and followed with fluff. There are people who will at least entertain -- if not necessarily respect -- alternate points of view, if they are ordered and coherent (and then again, there are others who won't). But one thing that will never work anywhere you go is name-calling . . . even if you're "smart" enough to call people "obsequious" instead of "toadying."
That's all.
I don't have anything else, but I would like to leave you with the same exit line I left for that other kid all those years ago:
I am nine feet tall and the king of Sweden.
Have a good day.
I think there are many groups, that overlap and change and grow just like a living thing. Ebb and flow, that's the life of a MB.I do agree that, if not a clique, there certainly is a core group.
No more 'Uncle Stevie' from me, either. I didn't know the complete story until now, as the only other place I've seen it was when it came directly from Stephen in an interview years ago. I'm pretty sure I've used it a couple of times in the years I've been a member here, but it was never meant in a disrespectful way. I used it more as a somewhat intimate term, like I was referring to an old friend.
Close the thread.
Sometimes it's good to have a reminder of good v poor MB etiquette.I agree with Leif. Close the thread. Us rubberneckers cannot stay away.
