I picked up The Dead Zone (copyright 1979) at a used book store and am absolutely astounded at the similarities to the presidential election of today. The setting is Maine/New Hampshire and a crazy guy is running for a Representative spot on the NH ballot. Johnny (protagonist) is psychic about Greg Stillson - the nominee. The time setting is the year Jimmy Carter 1st ran for president. Stephen King paints a dismal psychological/behavioral portrait of Greg, who is an absolute evil, vile, crazy man: however he has the NH electorate entranced with his charm - it is uncanny to the situation we Americans see today with the Republican nominee for President, 2016.
