The best he ever made, according to me, was Assault on precinct 13.
My favorite Carpenter film is The Thing. With a tie for second going to Halloween & Assault on Precinct 13.

Totally agree about Theron. I was impressed by her in Monster but since then... I don't know if i remember any movies with her. About the mystery that was rather on the table from the beginning i think. Wasn't it marketed as a prequel where we would get the answer to where the bad boys we all love came from. I only wish they could have done it a bit better. She was good but there's just something missing from the movie. The first scenes where they show the creature drinking whatever it was and going into the water really makes no sense. Charleze Theron is just wooden in her acting. By showing the origins of the aliens it ruins the mystery that is (was) present in the first Alien movie.
If you have a "John Carpenter addiction" then you must have loved "Christine"So, I have been lucky enough to find a theater in my home town that screens cult and classic movies on a fairly regular basis. If you live in the Boston area check out Coolidge Corner Theatre Foundation. It's the website for the Coolidge Corner Theater in Brookline. The @ftermidnight and big screen classics programs are pretty sweet. Within the last few months I've seen:
Escape from New York
The Thing
Big Trouble in Little China
The Warriors
(Yes, I have a bit of a John Carpenter addiction)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Night of The Living Dead are playing there soon. Also have Blazing Saddles and Jaws coming up.
On Halloween they usually have a horror movie marathon that runs like twelve hours. Haven't done that yet but might this year.
Anyone else lucky enough to have something like this in their hometown?

Nice pic but a bit big so I spoilerized it
I thought I was that only one that liked warriors. I have not seen it in ages.
Sutter... you live by ....me... ??
The Thing was my favourite, too (especially when I was posted to CFS Alert in 1992 which is actually way way up North, close to the North Pole) (believe it or not Ripleys)I liked the movie well enough. Not his best work but a solid film.
This looks like a demented Dick Van Dyke (he was the chimney sweep in Mary Poppins) (among other professions).

It's Bruce Campbell from one of the Evil Dead films, I believe. If I had to guess I'd say Evil Dead II.
I'm hoping they do the Evil Dead series at Coolidge Corner!
...Bruce Campbell is a demi-god....
...indeed, and if you haven't seen Bubba Ho-Tep....oh you must...Bruce Campbell is a guy I want to have a beer with. He was a chunk of the reasons we liked Burn Notice so much.
