Thanks not_nadine. Nice read. I would have gone with the original story about cutting off the foot. Based on the mysterious subtleties of viewer feedback and what was currently acceptable at the time I think they made the right decision and got more bang for their buck. Of course with current movies like Saw Parts I thru ? desensitizing us, we've come a long way (or maybe have fallen back). I wonder if the story about the inner workings of the Cujo ending is out there somewhere?
Interesting! I'm shocked that they had to scrap the chop and cauterize scene because of the actor's response to the scene. It seems mild, really, in comparison with so many things. I mean, it was horrible, but fitting - given Annie's lunacy. Hobbling was good too though. Hey, did ya notice the shout out Kathy Bates gave our friend "Oy"? Now and forever, I'll think of that sweet billy bumbler every time someone says Oy.
Bates remembers it as one of the more arduous aspects of shooting. “It had to be pulled at exactly the right time, when I was hitting the ankle, and sometimes the filament would break, and I was like, ‘Oy,’” the actress recently told EW.
