Wow, was just rereading this, what a tear-jerker.
Hope this doesn’t sound insensitive, but every year we have to do 9/11 stuff on the day in my classes (sort of mandatory). I don't like it. It is "never forget" type stuff for kids that have no connection to the event. It is the same trying to explain what it was like in 4th grade and watch the Challenger blew up, or my teachers explaining the JFK assassination. They get it was a bad thing and there is some empathy but not that connection.
I think I might do this story this year on 9/11, at least I think it could help with why the pain is still left here lingering.
