I'm brand new to this board and look forward to meeting fellow travelers and seeing what I can learn. I've been a Constant Reader (and collector) since 1983. Cheers!

Is this where I'm supposed to start as a newbie?
As usual, I just jumped in and didn't read much of the user guide. But this site is pretty easy to use.
To tell you a little something about myself--I've been a reader and a writer most of my life. But I only read Stephen King for the first time very recently. All I had ever heard about his work was that it's scary and I was afraid to read any of it because I've thought, since I was a little girl, that novels are just another type of reality and the story really happens whenever you read it. Then I read somewhere that one of Stephen King's influences was Shirley Jackson. Her novel We have always lived in the castle has been my favorite novel since I was 14 years old. Then I happened to see a copy of The Shining in a store. So I figured that meant I should read it.
I just wish someone had mentioned to me what a good book it is, how well put together it is.
So I read some of his short stories and just finished The Dead Zone.
Now I've got It waiting for me on my night table. I've heard a couple of people say it's the scariest novel ever written in the entire history of human literature.
But I'm going to read it. I swear I am. Just see if I don't.
