In my opinion this was one of SK's scariest stories. It seems to me that it could happen in real life. Politicians are scary.
And I don't think it could have ended any other way.

See above gniknehpets - I was going to answer your question but I forgot to quote youAbsolutely could be in the news today. Which is what makes this one of the scariest books he's written.
There's a line in the last couple of pages that gives me goosebumps every time I read it. It's such a simple line, but tells so much. Anybody guess what it is?
Yep. I remember reading it as a kid, and shrugging. When I read it again as an adult--WOW. Scary, completely possible, and heartbreaking. It's one of my favorites now.In my opinion this was one of SK's scariest stories. It seems to me that it could happen in real life. Politicians are scary.

I always have to think 'Which book is this again?' because usually they translate the title mostly one on one, but this one is translated as 'Deadly Dilemma' in Dutch
No, they could have easily called it 'Dode Zone'. No clue why they didn't.In the book they talk about a 'dead zone' in the memory, that's probably translated differently?

I've wondered this as well. We hear quite often about what inspires some books, such as Carrie, The Shining, The Stand, Cujo, Needful Things, IT, etc. Some, however, simply slip through the cracks. Dead Zone? Dreamcatcher? Gerald's Game?I wonder what inspired this story? Doesn't say over in the Library at sk dot com. Says for some stories, but not this one. The inspiration for Cell is a hoot. Go look.
