Thought it would be better to have a separate thread for the books so the spoilers don't ruin any of the plot if they're posted in the Other TV thread.

I haven't been reading any of the spoilers in the TV thread as I didn't want it to ruin the books.Good idea! The show has outpaced the books as of the coming season, but I'm sure there are plenty of others who are just starting the books.
Out of Order Where are you at now?
I'm back to not liking this book as much and think it's because I'm not as invested in the Greyjoy arc. There are some interesting characters but overall, just don't care enough about them to want to read more. Trying to be patient as I would guess it will all tie in eventually.
Confession: the further the show has gotten from the books, the less I've cared if I see it or not. I've not seen the last season at all, and never finished the 4th. The first 3 seasons did a good job of blending characters where they needed to, choosing important events, and bringing the story to life. They worked to keep the character development believable (and character is one of Martin's strongest suits, along with his crazy strong world building). I tolerated the wildly increased sexual content because: HBO. As the show progressed, though, I think the writers and show runners have gotten lazy about making a tight, believable narrative (you know what I mean--though the situations are fantastic, the way people behave should be believable) and focussed on stunt and GASP moments without the narrative to support them. Just my opinion, of course
Now he'll definitely never finish the series.....Speaking of George R.R. Martin....

I'm up to page 428 in Book 4.
I have the 5th one waiting in the wings. Steve's agent for foreign rights is also George R.R. Martin's agent so he (the agent) sent me all 5 books. Score!428? Holy smokes! You're tearing through this one. Do you have number 5 already or do you have to get it still?
So, did you find out what happened toPate yet?

Not sure how much to say aboutas I don't know how they handled that in the TV series. Sorry if this is a book spoiler for you.PateI've read the part where he gives the key to the Alchemist and then later drops dead thinking of Rosey.
Pate hasn't been mentioned in the show as of yet so I'm not sure if he'll be in it or not at this point. I read the part with him in the beginning where he gives the key to the Alchemist and gets the money to bed his dear Rosey. I was thinking he was poisoned, but not sure if fatally so. I guess he hasn't shown up again up to where your are then? Do you think he was poisoned when he bit the gold coin Dragon to see if it was real?
Confession #2: (I skimmed the Danerys parts-they bored me, once Khal Drogo died)
Confession #? I've on more than one occasion said to myself "Oh, darn, her again" when she's the next chapter heading.Confession #2: (I skimmed the Danerys parts-they bored me, once Khal Drogo died)
