The LOST finale reminded me a lot of this story.

One of my absolute favourites. I wrote a short story in the same pedigree and mighty proud of the way it turned out. I became a student of King after this one.

For me, this is the best story in the collection. I cannot extricate it from my brain. This is one of those stories that, as a writer, makes you think - why do I bother? I can't write anything this good.
