Synopsis:

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester’s Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener’s hand is severed as “the dome” comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when—or if—it will go away.

Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens—town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician’s assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing—even murder—to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn’t just short. It’s running out.

Junior shook his head slowly back and forth, but his eyes stayed in exactly the same place while he did it - pinned on his father's face. It was a little eerie. 'You don't need to know. I told you that. It's a safe place, and that's enough.' 'So now you're telling me what I need to know.' But he said it without his usual heat.

Loved it! couldn't put it down! I wanted to reach in a kill Rennie myself, I would be curious to see this as a movie or miniseries but it would have to be R rated or on HBO. Lots of gruesome, dispicable stuff.

I just began under the dome, only about 200 pages in, but he has once again possessed me!! As a constant reader, I'm pretty familiar with his work, as many of you probably already know, King likes to bring former characters into his new scenes. I think i recognized a 'Carver' in there (from 'Desperation' if I'm correct?) and I know I recognize a 'Delessep' but I'm not sure from where! Im having so much fun, this book makes me happy just to NOT be under a dome!!

As a fan since the early 80's this is Mr King's first book since IT that has really grabbed me, shook me by the scruff of the neck and left a lasting scar that I will have to scratch time and time again. I've never really stopped reading SK, my love affair started with The Lot and Jack Torrence and took full hold in The Stand but after IT I've always felt slighty let down. The Dome has put my SK world firmly back on its axis. Mr King, I would like to shake you firmly by the hand. Thank you.
