Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed," usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

just finished needful things, boshed it in 4 days, couldn't put it down until it was finished. utterly gripping and possibly the best non dark tower book by king that i have read. leland gaunt is one of the all time classic villains, wonderfully constructed and as appealing to the reader as he is to the doomed population of castle rock. i particularly loved the interplay between the characters, all of them so thoroughly relatable, and i couldn't help but feel a degree of empathy for each and everyone of them. for me, the most 'real' of all the characters in the book is that of nettie cobb. for me, the tragedy of nettie is the heart and soul of the book. needful things is an absolute masterclass in the art of plot and character construction and i would highly recommend it to all. bravo mr king

Clearly, one of my favorites. I remember reading this one, I remember the characters, the events and the whole plot... It's actually what you could call a successful novel because of these reasons... you remember it even after you reached its end. I almost read it twice.
