Not many people have commented on this book, and I am surprised! I am a King fan and Lisey's Story is by far my favorite. It is dark, complex, and I became so attached to Lisey's character that parts of the book brought me to tears. I have read it multiple times and every time I do, I am unable to put it down. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't picked it up yet.

I read this novel last week as my annual Halloween Ghost Story and found that I was indeed frightened but also moved by the discriptions of Lisey's marriage to Scott where their interior language was discussed. I very much agree that every marriage has its inside private verbal communication style and words that carry specific meanings between the two. The discriptions of Scotts childhood and especially his father hit home to me also as I was raised by such a man as Sparky Landon with booze poured on top of the rage. It made for painful painstaking waiting for when everything would blow. The images of child abuse in this book and in The Shining bring back the memories of fearful evenings and vacations gone wrong. The only other writer I have read who describes child abuse as well as King is Pat Conroy in his books "The Great Santini" and "The Prince of Tides". I rarely find anyone who really comprehends the horror of child abuse or is able to describe it adequately unless they have actually lived it. And I too have had my battles with the booze like my father and the character Scott Landon. That is also a terrifying story in itself. Im grateful today to say I am clean and sober and living in the Light now instead of the Dark.

Just finished listening to the audio book - it made me very patient when stuck in traffic as it allowed me more time with the story! While I have seen some reviews that knock the book for too much private language between Lisey and Scott, I found that this made the characters feel like a real couple. Perhaps Scott Landon could become a new pen name!

I am only half way through this novel, and it is by far my favorite Stephen King book so far.
