I took this on a holiday with me and got so into it I had to be dragged away from it to go out for dinner! I really liked this and it was my first Stephen King novel. Can't wait to read more!

Wow, I love this book. Such a realistic book, with something that could totally happen in the real world. A couple of parts I got frustrated with, however: Alice's death (Really, Stephen King? I knew you were a physco, but why did such a loving character have to die by such stupid reasons? I understand you thought behind it, to demonstrate that you were not allowed to touch the untouchables, but why Alice?), and the ending. It left you hanging, and I found myself flipping the page to the end of the book, trying to find more of it. I think, as a solution to these problems, you should create a sequel. It would be fantastic!! Also, I have read rumors about someone making it into a movie...? Is somebody ACTUALLY gonna do that, or is it a rumor that will never be answered? But, overall, AWESOME book. Loved it.

***SPOILERS***
I just finished this book last night. I was totally engrosed in the story line and just couldn't put it down. Which is unusual for me. Two comments right off. The first is that I don't usually shed tears for imaginary characters. However, I did for Alice. she was such a real and likable character. Her death was rediculous and senseless and I had to put the book down. Second, I really get frustrated with books that leave you hanging. I want to know what happens to Clay and Johnny. Do they travel back up state to rejoin Tom and Jordon, as well as the rest? A really good read. Not one of Stephen Kings best, but an enjoyable book that will tear at your heart as it turns your stomach.

This was a book I just could NOT put down. It kept my attention!!! It was so interesting that I read it in a few hours stright through!!! Would recommend it to anyone...the only problem is the ending..I was wanting more explanations
Posted By: Brady12 - 02/28/2010 - 12:22 AM EST
First off, let me just say Cell was f'in fantastic. But, I hope that there will be a sequel to it because a lot of things were left unexplained. One, and I think most important, where did the Pulse originate? The characters therorize but we never find out for sure. Two, did Tom, Jordan, Dan and Denise make it to their destination and what happened with Denise and her unborn child? Third did Jordan's idea about giving Johnny - Gee (Clay's son) a second dose of the Pulse work or did it make him worse? Like I said I really hope that there will be a sequel because I would like to see these things explained, plus Im sure other readers might have caught more loose ends. I hope this doesnt come off as complaining because other than the loose ends this was an awesome zombie novel, and like I always say I cant wait to start my next S.K. novel.

This book was really good. I enjoyed it a lot. Yet, some of the event in the book remind me of the movies "The Happening" and "I am legend" great job Mr. King!

This was the first book i read by Stephen King and ever since ive been hooked
Posted By: Alex - 02/01/2010 - 2:58 PM EST
i think this book was very good and creepy, but when it has the zombie feel going with it makes it even better. personally i dont think there will be another book even though that would be awesome, but i think King wants us to picture how it ends and i think the ending was good felt like a 1970s movie that has a very bleak ending but it delevers.

I adore Stephen King's writing. I mean the WRITING. He is masterful in his characterizations, and absolutely brilliant in the detail of his description. He seems to create people who are incredibly real. I have read almost everything he wrote. I am shocked at the dissapointing way that Cell ends. I am hopeful this points to a sequal. Keep going, King. You had me at, "hello."

I read the book in the last month , wow! makes me think about many things scary!!! And now , seeing the news about Haitis earthquake , i almost cry! Its so close! without the zombies madness , but the despair is the same. Im brazilian and dont write in english very well thanks Stephen king!!

When I come across a good novel, I read it from start to finish in one go. This was one of those novels. My only issue is that it seems to drop off a cliff at the end. I'm still wondering what happens with Clay's son and the other members of the group.
Posted By: Jutty - 01/10/2010 - 4:11 PM EST
As a long time reader of anything that Mr.King decides to publish, i have to say, this one is my favorite. And that is a HUGE statement for someone like me to make. I LOVE every story that he has ever written. I have spent numerous hours of countless days lost inside of his imagionation, and I would not trade that for anything. I love each and every story from Mr. King that I have ever read. But Cell stands out somehow. There is just no way of expressing in words just how brilliant this story really is. I guess I would not expect anything less from the King of horror/suspence.. Keep on writing them your magesty (lol) and I will continue to read them!!

I love this novel, probably my favorite, however I was dissapointed that the character "Alice" was killed off,she was an integral part of her group of survivors, killing her off took something good out of the story

dont you guys get it? Stephen king wants you to get your mind wondering in different places. He leftt the ending that way so you guys would raise all of these questions. To me it was a great ending.

Epic. definitely movie material. Im a big fan of apocalyptic stories and old zombie horror flicks and this did it for me, action from begining to end

this is the first king bookt that i ever read and i have been hooked ever since. i owe king for my fascination in reading and a great fascination it is. the great thing with this book in particular is that it sways from the classic zombie story. The main characters are your average people and that keeps the realisim there and only enhances the horror. cant wait fro under the dome!!!

This is just a suggestion, but as one of your consistent readers I believe it would be a brilliant idea to consider producing "Rose Madder" into a movie. I have read the novel several times and have become completely immersed everytime. I can only imagine how entertaining and gripping it would be as a film. Sincerely, Kelsi

Just finished it last night. A good read overall. I only wish King answered more of the whys and hows. As for the ending . . . I was disappointed. The thing is, the book built up to that moment -- pretty much from the start -- and to have it end like it did, it left me ???? However, looking back, I think it was a good way to end it. I can't see how else it should have ended. But, I do wish more of the questions were answered. I enjoyed it, but there was so much more potential here.

This book is AWESOME!!! I've always loved SK's books. I'm becoming a writer, but when I read this book, I saw I had a long way to go. He is my inspiration. An yes, it makes you want to go and buy out all SK's books. The ending just left me with my eyes wide open, and a little angry, since I wanted to know what happened, but in the end, I loved it completely. It leaves you wanting more. I'm just hoping no movie will be made of this book, since the movies are made as summaries and usually ruins great books as these, in my opinion. =)

One of the BEST books i've read!!! Stephen King has a way into making you into a "book-crazy". All the characters are very well developled making it impossible to put the book down until you find out what happens to the group next. This book WILL make you sad but with plenty of side action and dark comedy. Read this book if you have any sense of a well rounded novel... and make sure you have a strong stomach:)

I didn't like this book in comparison to other SK novels. However i must say i was quickly swept into it at the very beginning, and read eagerly for several nights. But then after Alice....*spoiler, i didn't pick it up to finish for another 3-4 months. Actually, i kind of tossed it across my room, and ripped the cover off i was so angry at what happened to my favorite character. But i did enjoy the ending. It didn't leave me wondering at all (After i thought about it for a few minutes, i was laughing my @!! off.).
Posted By: Danniella - 06/21/2009 - 6:19 PM EST
This was the second S.K book that I read and I clung to every word! I was so sad when what happened to Alice did happen (don't want to give away too much but I most likely have!) but then again in real life it is not always they most loveable that live (sorry, big giveaway!). I was slightly dissapointed at the end but I could not stop thinking about the story because of it! So what if some readers do not like the abrupt cliff hanger? I still reckon you could not help but wonder if there was goin to be another book following Clay's story, or did the story end with Clay and the possibility that his last desperate plan did indeed fail leading to his death? Causing you to constantly think about a story after it is finished is what makes a fantastic writer!

Well, this is by far the very worst book I have ever read in my entire life! For one, the ending was so absolutely retarded (much like the author from how I am now viewing him in this new light). For two, I cannot even begin to count how many times SK felt the need to constantly repeat almost EVERYTHING throughout the entire book! Honestly, if there were no such senseless repetitions....the book would have ended up being HALF it's size! For the third and final, what a sad attempt at painting (conveying) a picture in my mind of what was going on in the story.... things were all over the place! What a freakin waste of trees, my time and money as well! By the way, that will be the last cent SK ever gets of mine. John Saul sooooooooooo kicks SK butt when it comes to being an amazing author!!!!!!!!!!!!

For whomsoever reads this, Eli Roth, the Director of Hostel Parts I and II has the rights of the movie adaptation and it is claimed to be released in 2009, possibly 2010. Fantastic book; and for those who think the ending is bad, just wait until you're older and have kids of your own, then you'll understand the suspense.

From the first chapter i was hooked. All the action from the beginning to the end was awsome but i must say i thought he could have done better. The novel was awsome don't get me wrong but the fact that it was also goofy in a sence such as one of the zombies bowing at one of the charaters I just think that it could have been a little more hardcore but none the less a great novel ,a great read ,i've already read it once and i've gonna read it again ,king is the man

My first thoughts were, 'a zombie book - about damned time, Steve!' I beleived it would be nearly like a Romero tale yet told with that flair few have mastered. I suppose I set myself up for dissapointment. Cell is good - real good - but not great. Sorry. I should point out that Gerald's Game and Delores Claireborn are among my favorite SK tales.

Cell is an interesting book. So far it is very graphic and intence and also brutal it makes me reluctant to answer my phone. I heard they're making a movie about it and it will certanly be R rated. Its a good book! Read it.

I read this book last year and, even if I like the story, I have to confess I didn't like the book so much... An amazing beginning, and I also like the ending, but it's not so great.. I've been disilluded by this novel...
Posted By: Anonymous - 12/27/2008 - 12:27 AM EST
"Cell" was awesome without doubt, I just finish read it a hour ago. I felt the survivors, I suffer with them, I laugh, etc, etc. But WHY THE CLIFFHANGER AT THE END??!!! GGRRR! But I still love it!
Posted By: Anonymous - 12/23/2008 - 1:46 AM EST
Cell is the first Stephen King novel I've read and boy, the thought of disowning my current phone (and not having one for the rest of my life) crossed my mind as I began affiliating with "normies" who were so likable. I just wonder how the Pulse began and perhaps, Stephen King has it in his mind but wouldn't tell.

Can someone please explain the ending to me? Maybe I'm stupid but I just dont get the dates at thr very end... is that the time frame his son was a zombie?
[The dates refer to the time in which Stephen wrote the story. They are not part of the story itself.]

Another smashingly terrifying novel... The gore in this one was exceptional. The deaths of the heroes was both devastating and enraging!! I read this book faster than I have read anything in a while. Another one of my favs!

I'm thirteen and i think is book is soo amazing, i got it from the library at school because of the cover but the actual book was so, so, so brilliant! And that ending was such a cliff hanger it was unbearable!

what does the last 2 lines in the book mean? "December 30, 2004-October 17, 2005 Center Lovell, Maine" Is it referred to in book?
Posted By: Anonymous - 12/01/2008 - 3:34 AM EST
I think that this was a really good book with a great plot. The ending of this book really shocked me. For such a good book to have such a sorry ending is a real shame. Stephen King will leave you to draw your own conclusions on this one.

I think Cell is an amazing book, it is my favorite so far. My favorite movies are by far "The Shining" and "The Mist". Personally I think that this would make a great movie.

I've read this book three times now, and I love it more each time I read it. It's such a good mix of horror/angst that readers are immediately attracted to it. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes those genres. Good work Mr. King.
Posted By: HorrorReader - 11/05/2008 - 9:56 AM EST
My favorite King novel so far, along with The Shining. The characters are well created and the story is brilliant. I like the idea that these "crazies" - who have been exposed to the pulse - have telepathic abilities - excellent. Keep on writing King, you're the KING! Love you man! Sebastian, from Sweden.

I LOVED this book it was INSANE the blowing up the soccer field the guns Clay's hope that his Son and wife are alive. THE RAGGEDY MAN OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that was awesome! Stephen Kind has done it again!

This was the third book that I read by him. And tho I have read over 20 more in two years this is STILL one of my favorites on a list with IT, Carrie, Misery, and Insomnia. The latin phrases are cool because when I showed it to my latin teacher I got extra credit. I cannot reccomend this enough!!

the story is briliant.

I just finshed Cell and thoroughly enjoyed it. I liked the way it dove quickly into the action and really never let up. The characters were interesting and easy to sympathize with. My only concerns were the lack of a definitive explanation for the Pulse (I'm a stickler for details like these) and the less than satisfying demise of Raggedy Man.

I liked this book and am eagerly awaiting my brother bringing it back to me so I can read it again.

This book is my first Stephen King Experiance. I loved this book. It was a great book. I think that yes in reference to the post below Alice did have to die. It did suck that she died. But someone had to die. The "normies" had to know what would have happened if someone that was "insane" was messed with. Great Book!! Definately reccomend people read it.
Posted By: Zerobeat - 09/30/2008 - 5:24 PM EST
This was a great one, I am a zombie horror movie fan but this (though it really didnt have no zombies) was better then all that I have seen. Keep up the good work!

It was a riveting, startling novel, with a tremendously creative ''situation''. It is my second favorite Stephen King novel (The Shining is my first) and is very well written. SPOILER: (Did Alice REALLY have to die, though?)

This is one of the best books I have ever read. It is the first SK book I have read (and won't be the last). I love all of the SK movies made, and hope to see this made into a movie soon. Until then I have started to read Cell again for the 6th time.
Posted By: Mummylyn - 09/18/2008 - 1:19 PM EST
Disapointment really. Initially couldnt put the book down but stands alone in all of SK books for me for the ending, did not enjoy book as a whole which is unusual as I am an avid SK fan?

This is one of the best books I have ever read. The book not only pulls you in from the first page but makes you want to clear your whole day just to get the what happens on the next page... The concept is bloody scary but fantastically written. If you have not read this book go read it.

This kind of new-age writing is just the thing that brings people to fall in love with King. But yes awesome characters and outstanding plot.

This books grabs you from the first chapter and forces you along for the ride. No horror movie can come close to the terror that Cell has to offer.

An interesting twist on the old fashioned "Zombie Apocalypse" thing, only the people aren't dead and they move a lot faster. Heh. The whole book just gets more bizarre and twisted as you go along. I really like the deep psychological (if you can call it that) theme to it, how the human brain is like a computer. Interesting and yet equally frightening. This is my all time favorite book. Hands down. After I read the first few pages I was hooked. I lost sleep over it, it was that good. Kudos to you, Mr. King! You're an amazing author.

I read this book and loved it. But, what happened did it work ? Did they ever meet up again? I NEED to know what happened. I have never read a book so quickly I just had to find out what happened to them and I still don't know

Keep up writting as long as you can and good luck in future works. Oh and I'd look forward for squel of this one. I wonder what happens with "new telephone crazy guys" and WHAT Johnny is now after second call.

This book definitely kept my interest, I had trouble putting it down, but the ending was TRULY disappointing....to the point where I wasn't sure I'd ever pick up another Stephen King Novel again, I was THAT angry about it. Alas, but I did give him another try...Duma Key made up for it. : )

OMG! I completly love this book! I hope Stephen is in the process of turning this book into a screen play because it would make a fabulous movie. And to Stephen, you are the creator of so many things that I have only seen in my nightmares and I would so love to be you one day. Thank you for all the inspiration and all the sleepless nights (mostly due to The Tommyknockers)!

I tried to read this book 13 times but i couldn't get passed the first 40 pages. It was very hard to follow and I kept losing all interest.

Cell feels a little bit, by the numbers. There isn't the immersion of his other works.

Cell.....GoOd....I like ZoMbIes. Cell was a standard King book. All the way around. I know I've probably said this before about his work, but its true. I think this is why he is so popular. He has a very distinct writing voice. It's familiar and funny, so when people pick up a Stephen King book it's instantly relatable. (sans monsters). Cell was like an amalgam of King. It had his fascination of the apocalypse (the Stand, and Dark Tower). It had a new take on a classic horror genre (Salem's Lot/ Desperation). And, as usual there are parts of the story that just don't sit right with me. Certain story ideas that just don't fit with the larger work. For me, this is just King's style, you may not feel the same. I think the best thing about Cell is that it easily relates the fish-out-of-water tone the characters are thrown into. Within fifteen minutes, the world has changed, and there are zombies everywhere. It is fast paced, and the "what do we do now" quality pushes the plot along smoothly. I know alot of people are going to laugh when they hear that Cell phones turned everyone into zombies, I know it sounds corny, but King sticks close to his characters so it doesn't seem that ridiculous. They are just in shock, and the idea seems equally as ludicrous to them...at first. He also is able to pull this off with a little tongue-in-cheek jabs at the "Phone-Crazies." A suitable name for the monsters who never learned decent phone etiquette. Always yap yap yapping, extra loud, for everyone to hear, everywhere...THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!

This book is f**king great! I like the social view!!!
Posted By: Invictus - 07/30/2008 - 11:38 AM EST
As usual, King tells a great tale. Unfortunately, this one had the feel of a compressed "The Stand" redux to it.
Posted By: Bahamut - 07/27/2008 - 8:08 PM EST
My thoughts on Cell (Novel) are that it is really excellent, like "The Dark Half".I noticed that King was a little bit (huge bit) inspired by the movie "Guerra dos Mundos","War of the Worlds" in english,I guess...
