They really did a good job making this movie. It is my favorite film of all time. I could watch this movie one hundred thousand times and still not get tired of watching it!

One of my all time favorites, as a movie and as a book as well... Have all of Stephen King's books, and I'm really looking forward reading the new releases, and start wondering how the movie is gonna be like!

The absolute best movie ever made! I can hear Morgan Freeman talking in my mind. I hear him remembering Andy's words as he describes where to look under the rock. OMG the best movie ever! I love you Stephen King....sorry, just can't help myself.

I first saw this movie a few years ago, and I've been watching it ever since. Stephen King does not disappoint, and this story has his signature style - the twists and turns, enough realism to make you believe, and the characters that are larger than life. I read the book after I saw the movie. Masterful telling!!

I first saw this movie in September 1997. After a series of traumatic events over the preceding five years, I found myself in jail, wrongly accused of a serious offence. After the first week in there, in total shock at the situation, I was (thanks to a friend of a friend who knew one of the guards) transferred to a better part of the jail, where small colour tv's were allowed. Shawshank was the first thing I saw that evening. Obviously I empathised with the main character immediately - but I was captivated by the whole theme of the story - the relationship that developed between Andy and Red (which mirrored my own freindships inside, as the years went by) was very realistic. At the end of the film I found myself looking at the thickness of the cell walls - if only .....! Got to be the finest film ever made.

It's hard to argue with whats on offer with this film,it really is possibly the most complete piece of work ever. Words fail me. Stephen King has the most fertile imagination . Incredible. I bet he dreams a lot.

I am curious, Stephen, is it possible that you love Tolstoy? I was reading a collection of LT's short stories. "God sees the Truth But Waits" is a close cousin to Shawshank. Please tell me you are a Tolstoyite -- :)

If you ever get the chance to visit Mansfield, Ohio - go to Ohio State Reformatory and take the Hollywood Tour to see where they filmed this movie - it was a great experience - the cost of the tour is to raise money to restore the prison.

I thank the same about the movie, it is by far the best. I don't think any one person could have played the "character that Morgan Freeman" did.

This is my most favorite Stephen King movie, and the acting by Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman is what made this movie so great.

If you have not seen this movie, you are missing out on one of the truly best movies every made. One of the 2 best movies every adapted from a book. Mr. King's "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" was an excellent read. The movie "The Shawshank Redemption" directed & screenwriting by Frank Darabont, who should have won an oscar for his work. Mr. Darabont was also, the drector & screenwriter for Mr. King's "The Green Mile" & "The Mist." Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman gave the best performances of their careers so far. The other best movie adapted from a book is "Marathon Man" written by William Goldman who also, wrote the screenplay for the movie by the the same name. He also, wrote the screen play for the movie "Hearts in Atlantis" which was very loosely adapted from Mr. King's novella "Low Men in Yellow Coats" from his book "Hearts in Atlantis."

Never read the short story, but the story/movie is, by far, one of the best ever made.

This was one of my favorite short stories of Stephen King or any writer for that matter. The result of the adaptation is that it is my favorite movie. For anyone that has not seen the movie, do rent it, but only after reading the story first!
