Based on The Mist from Skeleton Crew

David Drayton (Thomas Jane), his son, Billy (Nathan Gamble), and their neighbor, Brent Norton (Andre Braugher) head to the local grocery store to replenish supplies following a freak storm. Once there, they and other local citizens are trapped by a strange mist that has enveloped the town and in which strange creatures are lurking. As the mist takes its toll on the nerves of those trapped in the store, a religious zealot, Mrs. Carmody (Marcia Gay Harden) begins to play on their fears to convince them that this is God’s vengeance for their sins and that a sacrifice must be made and two groups—those for and those against—are aligned. When it is realized that staying in the store may prove fatal, a small group including the Draytons, store employee Ollie Weeks (Toby Jones), Amanda Dumfries (Laurie Holden), Irene Reppler (Frances Sternhagen), and Dan Miller (Jeffrey DeMunn) attempt to make their escape. They find that what’s “out there” may be worse than what they left behind.

This has always been one of my favorite Stephen King stories. As for the movie, I believe that the screenwriter did the right thing by not leaving the ending open as the short story did. If he/she hadn't, the audience would leave feeling they had been set up to plunk down money for a Part 2 in the future. No chance of THAT happening. Shocking? Yes. Smart? Absolutely.

Stephen king has always been great at horror and i think this is one of his best works ever. I hope his imagination still continues to make great movies and books!

The ending of this movie was probably the most disturbing thing I have ever seen. Yes it was different from the book, but it grabbed you, chewed you up and spit you out. Even Stephen King said in an interview that he wished he would have thought of that ending. The character development is excellent, and like Citygirl, I was surprised at how satisfied I was when Mrs. Carmody was killed.
