i think that Morgan Freeman, good actor that he is, overdid himself in this one. Otherwise, I thought it was a good adaptation, save that they should have put more in the end.

I thought the movie was pretty good actually. Yea it was changed from the book but it was at least enjoyable, better than some movies I've seen.

I have to agree, I was kinda let down by the film.
The book is pretty good, but the film grew kinda thin in my mind.

SK class???!!! I add my amazement to the rest of us ole codgers who just had to slog thru the three R's, and of course the elective in underwater basket weaving. Yep, no doubt in what passes for my mind that the book was the better of the two...I've often wondered if the Hollywood wing-nuts even READ the book before they start slapping celluloid and digital together...

I agree with a lot that has been said in this thread.

I finished the book last week and just watched the film and am severely disappointed. I love Morgan Freeman, but that casting was possibly the worst in a long time. They didn't include enough of Jonesy's inner dialogue with himself and Mr. Grey. I thought that was one of the greatest aspects of the books. They completely forgot about building up Roberta, who I thought was a great character.

The ending was atrocious. The book had a good ending, which is why I don't know why Hollywood felt the need to ruin it.

There is something weird about the movie, although I can say I didn't quite dislike it. The main actors are convincing, but I'm not at all happy about the ending. The book was better in my opinion. It's often like this with adaptations not made by the King himself. They change the ending, they don't develop the characters enough, and sadly some very good actors are badly used, like Morgan Freeman for exemple. Anyway, I'm glad I didn't pay big price for the DVD, and overall I'm still happy to have it in my collection. I'll have to rewatch sometimes, to see if I'll like it more the second time around.

I loved the book and the movie was okay. There's usually some type of disappointment in watching a movie adaptation, because it's not exactly what we've pictured in our minds.

I finished the book yesterday.I decided to watch the movie the same night while i could remember everything as i had all the details and the story fresh.I have watched the movie years ago when i was still a kid.But last night it was a big disappointment!
At the beginning the movie was quite ok following the book with the Beav,Pete,Jonesy and Henry going to Hole in the wall, the Mc Carthy thing, and everything. But where were the lights in the sky and the weird things?Where is Mr Gray in the hospital room? When the adventure began things got worse. No escapes,no fires,no Perlmutter!!No Freddy!Kurtz is not that bad as the book said and there was no chase between Mr Gray - Owen-Hnery - Kurtz-Freddy.This part finished so fast.Duds is NOT an alien! He died in the car when he connected with Henry and they HELPED Jonesy kill Mr Gray in his subconscious mind, and in the end he thought it was just his imagination and Mr Gray never was real. The end was completely different.Could be better. So the book is wayyyyyyy way way much better - neat!
