I think "Insomnia" has a great storyline, full of amazing ideas and turning points, it's almost ready scenario for a blockbuster. Even though, that this story touches an issue of abortion, which is a serious subject, it can be called a modern fairy tale. Like all King's books it has a lot of subtle literary allusions, for example a cat, which name is Winston Smith... It's true that first part is less thrilling than the second one, however I don't mind it. One of his best books. 9.

    Hi,

Tell me, have you read DT?

Insomnia makes a great deal more sense post-DT IMO, I enjoyed it far more anyway.

    Long days and pleasant nights

I'd rather read "Insomnia" than listen to a minor league baseball game on the radio.

I'd say 7.5 at most. After reading the DT series, then It and then onto Insomnia..I was a bit disappointed with how the book shifted with Ralph and Lois.

Her trying to stop him from killin the bad dudes and such was lame. I thought the first half of the book was pretty good though.

After reading all those DT books and then IT, this one just doesn't measure up for me.

It took me 2 tries to finally read this one, and as you said it was great! I've re-read this one at least 4 times.

The first time I read Insomnia, I remember thinking that SteveK finally found his heart again and I 'fell in love' with his writing again. I had been sort of disappointed with some of his previous books, Tommyknockers and Christine come to mind, because I just 'didn't care' about the story or the people. It was like SteveK was just writing to write books to pay the bills. Blasphemy, I know, to have had such thoughts, but I just didn't get that 'buzz' for a few years. I guess I was spoiled and bitchy, like that girl in Willy Wonka who just wanted more more more! Then Insomnia came along, and I slowed down and enjoyed the gentle story within the story of the 2 little doctors who with such love and caring help us from this reality. There are so many stories going on in this one novel, I guess because I am old now, that the love story of Ralph & Lois made better sense, and my own mortality is ticking louder.. I think this is my second favorite King book, The Stand of course being numero uno (forever and ever, amen)

I'd give it a 9.2. The biggest problem with the book was that the story seemed to live on connections. But otherwise, I really enjoyed it.

Only a quarter done but so far I would give it a 5. It was tough for me to get sucked into the story since I finished Salem's Lot before picking up Insomnia.
