I didn't like my first name when I was younger, it's Eliza and people call me Liz, and for some reason some people insist my name is Elizabeth. Nope, I've corrected them and they still call me Elizabeth, not Liz which is generally how I introduce myself, one lady argued with me when I was 7 and told me I was wrong. K, 7 year olds don't know their own name. . .

I hate my married name. I never should have taken his.

I've always hated my name. It's not that it's ugly or anything, it's just that every other girl born in the 70's was named Jennifer, and I got tired of being part of the crowd.

So, do you like your name? If so, why? If not, why? Is there a story behind it?
Did you know that 'Jennifer' comes from Guinevere?
Where you felt it common, I was way on the other side of the scale.

While I was growing up I hated my name. Now I appriciate it for it's uniqueness. My name originated from my grandfather's Welsh/Irish ancestory.

I've been fortunate to have one of those names that has endless nicknames associated with it. Anytime I get bored with one, I can always change to another... My parents still call me by one name, my siblings and some friends by another, and neighbors and acquaintances by yet another... And I'm not even counting variations on those nicknames (one of which is, really, Mrs.Smeej). I also respond to almost any endearment; "Hey honey!" or "Moooommmm!" elicit a response, even if not directed at me. It is a rather confusing existence...

As for last names, I went from a relatively short (four letter) Irish last name to an unpronounceable 9 letter last name that I still, after fifteen years of marriage, have trouble spelling... Okay, okay - I'm exaggerating, but not by much. I used to bemoan the change until I realized that it could be quite useful. Being a notoriously soft touch for salespeople, I could safely ignore anyone who called and couldn't pronounce the name. It obviously wasn't someone I needed to talk with. I'm pretty sure I've dodged at least three magazine subscriptions and two offers to clean my carpets for a "low, low price" simply because the salesperson mangled the last name and I could reasonably claim that the caller had the wrong number.

And no wonder you use both names, Luli, that's beautiful!

    Thanks for the compliment, John!

I always assumed Dalglish is your last name, silly me! I like it, it's very unique!

My daddy was named Ralph, legally he used Leonard and everyone called him Pat.
    Mama's name is...well I can't say, she'd kill me, it's a state secret..but everyone calls her Pat.
My sister who is no longer with us, was named Jane...everyone called her Patsy.
I'm actually named Patrick...everyone calls me #*@%^*...life sure can be vicious circle sometimes.
The name Pat is really popular in your family!

I actually really like all my names. It's quite solid. My last name is a single syllable, and often people call me that instead of my nickname.

I am a paranoid though, and I nearly changed my last name at one point in my life, and I still could, just to shake a few more ass-clowns from where I grew up. My father meant nothing in my life other than sperm donor and reason for my mother to fight for child protective services, so I figured taking my mothers maiden name would fit just right. Formalities and lineage tags mean quite little to me, in the grand scheme of things. I'm more concerned about the quality of life than the fluff surrounding it. Maybe I should take my sisters married name instead... Then I'd be a 'King', and everybody would know the towels I kidnapped from my moms house were mine. XoP

But if I go so far as to change my name, I might as well change my face and bank balance as well. Rewrite the whole system, ya know? I know nobody ever says they already figured what their name will be in Heaven. But then, it's kinda taboo to speak of stuff like that...

I'm not very happy with my name. My first name is so common I have to spell it differently to get just a little effect (but people usually spell it the way I would if I didn't differ it). My last name is very uncommon and people love to mispronounce it. It is too complex.

I wouldn't mind doing all that legal stuff to change it.
