Movie in Theater: It's just better there
Rent Movie DVD: Less expensive, more comfortable, etc.
No Preference: A movie is a movie no matter where you watch it

I prefer to see movies at the theater, but since they are so expensive I usually only go to see the ones which are "big" movies (movies with impressive special effects which would be magnified by the silver screen - think Jurassic Park, Independence Day, etc...)
Dramas, independent films, and the like, I can see at home. Unless it's something I've been waiting forever to see, and in that case I'll spring for it at the theater.
Hey my option is not there!
I download the movies and watch them in my PSP lying in my bed, there is no way better to watch movies for me!. Of course in this way hardly ever I watch a premier, but I really don't care since the best movies for me are the old ones like the ones directed by Akira Kurosawa, or with the actress Bette Davis or produced by Alfred Hitchcock.
I prefer to rent them. But, every now and again there's always one that I just have to go see in the theater
Wait for DVD.
I had a hard time voting on this one. I chose theater because I would rather see movies at the theater. But we usually end up waiting for the DVD instead. It has to be a really good/big (think LOTR) movie for me to be able to talk my husband into going to the theater.
I rent or buy the DVD, once I have made sure it is something I will watch a few times. I have a halfway decent home theater setup, so it is almost like the big screen. I can make my own popcorn for a fraction of the cost, I can pause anytime to use the facilities and I can set the volume to my own liking.
Plus, I don't waste gas going to the movie and no waiting in lines. I don't get upset at rude people who talk, or leave their phone on. I wait to check out the reviews online to see if it is worth watching. One rule of thumb I have is if anyone in the film has been on tv stating their political views, I don't watch the movie. Instead of being able to immerse myself in the story, I would keep remembering the stupid thing they said in some interview. With the nation split so evenly, you'd think they'd realize that whatever their view, they are going to agitate half their audience.
Wow, I just realized how easily I go off topic. Sorry. I mean, I could have just deleted the off topic part, but it feels good to vent.![]()
I like to go to the theatre. Then if the movie is any good, I will buy it when it comes out like The Mist. Fantastic !

I used to prefer movies in the theater until I got annoyed by the people who sit in the dark theater and text. Yeah, sure your phone isn't ringing but the light is distracting. Now I've got a nice new TV so movies at home are fine by me.
