Dark Tower - the movie

Hi,

Well, we need somewhere to discuss the movie, don't we?

I don't think there's much point discussing whether it should or should not be made, as commercial pressures ensure that it certainly shall.

May take three years, five years, whatever, but I don't think it'll take the time it took for LOTR as the CGI technology needed for DT already exists.

So it's up to us IMO to offer constructive advice (LOL) and opinion on HOW it should be done. Whether Sai King will read it here is an open question, but I believe that anyone with any sense (Abrams etc) working on putting together a package, probably has a look in here to see what they can see, so any ideas may well filter into the movie.

Who knows, but it's worth putting your opinions down just in case IMO.

Plus the fact I was feeling sorry for Ms Mod constantly having to repeat the mantra about Abrams and options, and I thought if she explained it one last time here, it may save her from the constant repetition.

So what's your thoughts on the DT movie then?

LOTR did a good job of keeping true to the story while only changing a few things. My only wish is that they don't warp it into something that isn't recognizable. As long as Stephen is involved I have the feeling it will be good. I'm just at a loss as to who I would get to play Roland. I've heard Jason Statham, Timothy Oliphant, Clint Eastwood, etc. But I've thought about it, and I think Russell Crowe could pull it off.. What do you guys think?

I think it's gonna have to be Viggo! He's got the looks, down to the piercing blue eyes. And I believe he's good enough actor to play our Roland! Looking at 'Cort' and thinking that may be the place for Russell. But just one time I would like to throw out Billy Connelly for Cort and possibly Gabriel Byrne for Flagg! Johnnny Depp has to stay as Eldred Jonas! As Sai pointed out to me other day he will have more of a part that way! ( Loved Billy C. in many amovie but especially loved " Still Crazy" that he was a Roadie in! Really great cast in that movie!) At least lets weigh the pros and cons. There is much the same palaver in another camp similar to this! I plan on responding to both, at least until one is abandoned! Sai?

I like Gabrielle Byrne for Flagg, and Viggo Mortensen for Roland, those are good choices, Clint Eastwood will always be Roland to me but as a necessary second choice Viggo is definitely a good thought.

I think Timothy Olyphant would make a great! Roland...and I was thinking about Rosario Dawson for susannah.

Clint Eastwood would be the perfect choice.....35 years ago, I'm afraid! Timothy Olyphant is good and was really good and tough in 'Dead Wood', but sorry I just don't think he is 'Roland' tough! Especially after the role he played in 'Dream Catcher', I think he would be too closely associated with that movie.Rosario Dawson might be a good choice.I have to give more thought to Eddie and Susanah!

Hi,

I just got The Gunslinger Born, the Marvel hardback, and I'm knocked out by the artwork, and it's bringing me around to the viewpoint that Dark Tower might be better animated, in the style of the Marvel artists.

Any thoughts? Especially from those who've seen the book, or comics?

If in the slightest chance they ask Daniel Day lewis to do this and he says yes, they'd be crazy to cast anyone but him, in the role of Roland.

Ryan Gosling would kick ass as Eddie Dean.

And can we get a REAL black woman to play Susannah, please?

Seriously, the best actresses to play the part are Naomie Harris, Sanaa Lathan, and Kerry Washington period.

Naomie's a bit skinny for it, but she's wirey and tough. Hello 28 Days Later...

No whispery voiced, half-black ing'enues, please.

I still think Viggo fits the archetype better than Day-Lewis for Roland...but Daniel is one bad-@$$ dude, and he can act. He should be in the films somewhere imo.

Jason Statham, would be my choice for Roland. He has the tone and looks the part. See him in Transporter you may agree
