Default What was the first S.K. title that you read?

I have always loved to read. When I was in middle school I started reading R.L. Stein's Fear Street series and eventually my dad(who has been a constant reader longer than I've been alive) introduced me to Stephen King. The first book that he lent me to read was The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon. Since then I've been reading S.K. almost nonstop. About two years ago even my grandfather started reading S.K.(I guess technically that makes me a third generation constant reader even though I was before him) with the Dark Towerseries. I want to know which was first for you. Which book(or story) did you cut your teeth on? Which was the first to make you afraid of the things that go bump in the night?

Hey! *high-five* I also started out reading R.L. Stine way back when. Ahhh, good memories!

I couldn't really ever pick a first SK book - they all seemed interesting to me. So I would pick up as many of them at thrift shops and whatnot as I could. I finally sat down and read one of them, which happened to be Misery. I haven't looked back since.

The Shining - I think shortly after it was released in paperback (I was probably 17 or 18 years old). I remember there was a friend or two who had read it and recommended it to me. I was instantly hooked.

I heard about sK from an author I'd loved for years, William Goldman. I got a used copy of The Shining and was off to the races.

I was introduced to the wonderful world of Stephen King at the tender age of 13 when a cousin of mine got me 'Salem's Lot for Christmas 1984. It scared the crap out of me.
