Don't think I could do the cheese curds either. Plain fries, touch of mayo-- now that's OK. Gravy? Maybe

Once I got past that sushi isn't all raw fish, I was able to try it. Not something I'd have that often, but good for a change of pace every now and again.

I tell people Merry Christmas because I celebrate Christmas... even though I'm not Christian. If someone is offended by being told Merry Christmas, they have underlying issues that need to be addressed. I don't have a problem with people saying Happy Holidays, but it just seems like such a generic, insincere half hearted gesture to me.

There seems to be an epidemic of thin skined-ness going on in our world when people feel offended by being told to have a "Merry Christmas" or told "God Bless You" after they sneeze. Atheists (a group to which I belong) seem to be among he most affected by this epidemic.

I use shredded mottza or cheddar instead of curds. Just close your eyes and think of England when you eat the fries and gravy Marsha....it won't hurt a bit.

Next time you do Canada, go down there in the east and you will be surprised...Newfoundland looks more like Ireland and it's culture is very Celtic.
Oh, maid...you made me miss Johnny D. with a vengeance when I read this. The last time I read and chatted about Newfoundland, it was within the context of brainstorming for the 2011 Halloween story....with your sage input.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread or be a downer. May I have some split pea pudding, please? Or just....

    ...whirled peas?

I certainly am not offended by anyone saying Merry Christmas. I am not in any way religious but do understand that this was a Christian celebration and should remain so. But it has been hi-jacked and is a much more commercial celebration of a man in a red (but originally green) suit.

I personally think Christianity is being side-lined and this is a shame, we have to be tolerant of all other religions and their festivities so why does Christianity have to suffer. It is Christmas so the greeting should be Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays (no disrespect Ms Mod) could be relating to any holiday of the year, if you do not celebrate Christmas that is your personal choice, I do not celebrate any Jewish or Muslim etc holidays but I would not hi-jack theirs and insist on saying we should say Happy Holidays (again Ms Mod no disrespect intended) instead of the correct greeting.

I am not offended by people saying Merry Christmas and there is no need to feel that you have expressed disrespect because your opinion is not the same as mine because I prefer to say Happy Holidays if I'm unsure of someone's preference. Christmas is not the only religious celebration during this time of year nor was it the first--Hanukkah came at least 165 years BCE from most scholars' estimations. Unless I've totally missed it, though, I haven't heard of any uproar about people not saying Happy Hanukkah instead of Merry Christmas. My personal stance is one of inclusion not exclusion nor do I believe that by saying Happy Holidays I have side-lined anyone's holiday but rather I'm honoring them all. I don't understand why a person would think that acknowledging other beliefs somehow diminishes their own. That's my personal belief and whether someone else agrees or disagrees with it, is entirely up to them and I mean them no disrespect either.
