Saw this thread yesterday and decided that it's been a long time since I read this book. 1987 to be exact. Looked for it on Kindle UK but no luck, so I decided to dig out my old hardback version.

What a surprise. Not only does it still look as good as new, but I had completely forgotten that it contained some wonderful illustrations. Needless to say, I am at present renewing myself with an old friend, a story that I don't quite remember so it's like reading for the first time.
