    Default What do you say?

Hello Constant Readers. I'm new around here, so forgive me if you guys have already had this discussion elsewhere. It's not really all that important. Trivial even, so I'll get right to the point. What do you tell people when they ask you what the Dark Tower series is about? Assuming, of course, that you don't just say read it and find out. The quick answer is "it's about a gunslinger." But that hardly feels right. And then you invariably feel obligated to define "gunslinger." Most of the time I tell them, simply put, it is about everything. And then my mind short circuits.
Anyone else have better luck answering this question?

Hi, first off, welcome to the boards. I say that it is about a gunslinger that is really like a night errant who exists in a world that is the twin of this one. That his quest is to find and save the dark tower which is in danger of falling. I then expalin that the dark tower is the lynchpin of all the worlds and all the universes and if it falls existance as we know it winks out. That he his to draw people form our world to help him. And then, invariably, I say "Gods, just read the darn thing."

I tell them that it's horror, fantasy, sci-fy, western, romance all rolled into one with magic. It's the epic of epics.

I'm scared to spoil even the slightest detail, thus, I tend to lean toward the everything answer.

I tell then first and foremost that the series is King's masterpiece,
It's no secret that he loves those books more than anyone.

Then, I tell them that it's set in another world,
and that the world is dying,
and that there's a man named Roland who's the last person left in this world that can do anything about it.
I also tell them that the first sentence of the first book is the most important sentence in the entire series.

My answer is easy. Nothing since nobody ever ask me about DT. But if someone would ask me, I probably tell them little bit about the series and then say go and read it so you find out. Okay sorry that was maybe rude way to say it.

I would tell them that it is about a quest, and friendship, and a beginning which is an ending only to begin again. If that doesn't confuse them enough, tell them that it is a long l-o-n-g story about a journey of fantastical events and people they will come to love.
