So I have to tell you I LOVE this book so far. I can understand why people had been grumpy to wait (how long?) between books to discover that this book is an 'aside' and doesn't advance the journey.
I love it though because I am more convinced now than ever of Sai King's amazing talent as a writer in that he can write in so many styles and genres!
This book reminds me of several historical fiction novels I have read recently . Specifically ones about Ireland, pre and post Irish famine. There is one book in particular I read about a girl who is sent to live with a rich landowner as an indentured servant/ginny in exchange for letting her mother and younger siblings stay on the land and in their home.
Anyway, so I guess I don't really have much to say other than that I am totally wrapped up in the story right now and am savoring it. Its getting VERY interesting.. Roland, Cuthbert and Alain are just about to start counting horses, (they already know there is a huge discrepancy between the numbers they can see over the Drop and what they have been told), they have seen oil bubbling from the thinny (and Depape has been backtracking on their travels and has discovered who Roland really is and where they are from. I have a feeling its going to start to move a whole lot faster here soon.
And I have to work for a living, WHY??? I want to read!
I already can say this is the best King book I have ever read. So enthralled.
