    Default Just finished (spoilers)

Hello everyone. I'm new to the Stephen King website. This is the second SK book I've read; the first was "Carrie." I really enjoyed it but haved some issues with it.

1.) While I like how detailed SK got with describing 'Salem's Lot and its inhabitants, I think there were too many characters at one point. So many, in fact, that some who were interesting and had potential for more development got shoved off to the side later in the story.

2.) I felt really sorry for Susan Norton. Sure, she kind of pushed her old boyfriend (Floyd Tibbits) off to the side for a flashier guy (as far as we know, much of this might have happened off stage), but she didn't deserve what happened to her and her family. I'm OK with this, however, since it infuses and little realism in the story that anything can happen to just about anybody in SK's universe. The only thing that really disappointed was how SK seemed to shove her off to the side one Mark Petrie finds her in the woods near the Marsten House. We don't get to experience her changing into a vampire form her point of view. I would have like to have read about what was going through her head when she was alone in the basement, how she would never see Ben or her parents again. Instead, all we get is Mark Petrie hearing her scream and then silence. Then she gets staked later on.

All in all, 'Salem's Lot is a great book and I'm exicted to read more of SK's works in the coming months and years.

hi! I'm also pseudo-new to the website and these forums... I'm also pseudo-new to SK (I've read maybe 10 of his books at this point)... and I too just finished Salem's Lot for the first time a few days ago... and I too read Carrie right before that

not to any of your points, but the more I read SK books the more I become disgusted with so many of the movies. all too frequently fundamental elements of the plot and characters are altered. i suppose that's what has to be done for screenplays, budgets, and to avoid having every movie be 8 hours long... but the differences are sometimes striking

if you're looking for a suggestion (if i may be so bold), i'd mention that It is the scariest book i've ever read... and The Stand might be my favorite story of his so far

If one of the characters you liked was Father Callahan I would suggest starting the Dark Tower series and that is all I'm going to say!

Of all the SK books I've reread, I must have covered Salem's the highest number of times. Seriously, over 50 for sure, and my favorite parts... When you reread this books in the future (if you believe in rereading that is) you'll see that each time the book reveals something new. It's just gets better!
I didn't feel sorry for Susan Norton though... I thought that concierge what happened to Lucy in the Original Bram Stoker's story, this this was a very appropriate salute.

That's not the only novel in which he has a cast of thousands on a string...but he fleshes them out just enough IMO...
