I kind of lost touch with them from 1985 to...well... 2010. Life distracted me. I saw the Time Machine Tour in August of 2010 and fell right back in love. There were personal things happening, too, which they and their music helped me through... I hear that sort of thing a lot from Rush fans: they discovered and/or leaned on the music during a time of crisis or change. That's pretty special.

Oh, new update on Neil's website for any interested: http://www.neilpeart.net/news/index.html
I know how to play the whole Hemipheres album (on bass). It was a painful 7 months though.
"Villa" is probably my favorite Rush instrumental (or Leave That Thing Alone).

And your husband is right. Anyone that can play any of Rush's stuff can play anything else in the field. Now that I can play alot of Rush on bass, I find most other things basic because no band puts into their stuff like Neil, Geddy and Alex put into.

And if I was being completely honest, when i first discovered Rush, I fell asleep at my desk (I was listening to 2112 in it's entirety, fell asleep at 'Discovery'. Once 'Something for Nothing' came on, it got me up right away).

I also saw the Time Machine Tour (my second concert ever- after Iron Maiden) and thought it was phenomenal. I was in Toronto, and it was just packed. They play as good as they did back when they released Moving Pictures.

Anyone plan on seeing Rush for the Clockwork Angels tour this fall? Pre-sale tickets are already on sale, I think the general sale starts tomorrow (not sure though). I might take my daughter Jillian to her first real concert! Rush never curses and they never do anything at their concerts that isn't rated G, so I think it's a good first concert to go to. I am going to give her a set of earplugs, though! I think it's only appropriate because Rush was the first real concert I ever went to back in the early 80's.

Not planning to go, but I love Rush.

After all, I met my husband on the 23rd of May....sitting on the lawn to watch the fireworks display...though it's just a memory, some memories last forever.

Definitely, ff! The tickets for Seattle haven't gone on sale yet, though. Here's a tip: go to Rush.com and sign up for the newsletter and you'll get access to the pre-sale through them. It helps a bit

And take your daughter! We took ours to 2 shows last year and she had a great time. Good call on earplugs to protect her hearing. They play mighty loud and most of the upcoming shows are indoors. We're hoping there will be a second leg next year and we'll go to a couple more shows. They are also very kid-friendly, though Geddy did drop the "f" bomb at the Gorge last year on the last night of the tour. That was such a rarity that Neil even remarked on it in his update (on his website).

Yeah. I love Rush. Look in the Ka-Tet Cantina thread for how much

So.... The new RUSH album came out last week. Clockwork Angels was #1 on iTunes and amazon music in every category it fit. Fickle as the music scene is, it's fallen a bit now. Reviews are predominantly good, with the usual "too hip to like them" crowd throwing cold water on us. Hey, we're SK fans, too, so we're used to that, right?

The album is a concept album (remember those?) and is available on vinyl as well as CD. It follows the life of a boy who lives in a steampunk world from the tine he sets out on his own to his "retirement." There are classic rocking tunes - I swear they time traveled their younger selves to play on this! - and some more mellow ones. One stand-out is the last song, The Garden. It's heart-breathtakingly beautiful (I've heard from big, metal-head guys who cry at it!) and one of the best songs they have EVER done. I highly recommend the entire album, especially to a group of story-loving folks like we have here.

You can listen to samples here: http://www.amazon.com/Clockwork-Ange...nr_625129011_1

Now, if you'll excuse me it's time to give it another listen....

I picked up Clockwork Angels last week, I've listened to it 3 times already and I really am enjoying it! This is some of their best songwriting in years, musically this is very adventurous. I can't believe they actually used a piano during "The Garden"--that has to be a first for Rush! Took my ears a while to adjust to the very aggressive production on the heavy numbers. There are some great hard-rocking songs here but I am finding my favorites to be from the last third where things quiet down a bit. They weren't afraid to make something beautiful.
