So I know this is probably a very naive question, but what is the connection between Lud/Luddites in DT and the British Luddites of the 1800s who destroyed factories?

I don't think your question's naive at all. I have no idea if a connection exists between the 1800's Luddites and Lud.. perhaps the former served as inspiration for Sai King..?
