    Default First DT trip

    Hi!

First of all I must say I love this Message Board! I already found a lot of info here and I can't wait to finish 11-22-1963 (or 22-11-1963 as it is named in Belgium just noticed that) so I can read the spoiler threads ... I'm at page 839 now so I'll probably finish today (and what a journey it was)

I must say this was my first SK novel in a while, after Full dark, No stars last year and Carrie , The Shining more than 7 years back.
Now I want to start the DT series for the first time! Pretty excited! I already have part one but I noticed there is a book called Road to the DT, I was wondering if I should read that one first or after the series. I also know there are other novels linked to DT, any of them that I should read first?
I notice that I'm much more in to SK now as I was a few years ago (that's why this is only my 4th novel), so I wanted to ask only one more simple (or maybe not) question: Any other novels that are a MUST read?

I thank you in advance for all the info! And my apologies if this were posted in the wrong place.

PS: my english is a bit rusty.

Hi and welcome to the SKMB.

The Road To the Dark Towerby Bev Vincent is a an excellent book filled with DT information. A must have for DT fans. However, it is best saved for after reading the series. It does contain many spoilers. Another book- Dark Tower Concordance by Robin Furth is almost like an encyclopedia for the DT books. It great reference for understand terms and time times. Again, a must have book.

IMHO all SK books are in someway connected to the Dark Tower journey. It isn't necessary to read all the connections first. Start your journey to the Dark Tower, sit back and enjoy an experience of a lifetime. It can be life changing.

As I've posted in other threads, there is no right or wrong way.....take advice from the Vets.

This is just my experience....I read the DT first then all the related books. Look on the SK.com page for the related books on the "must" reads. It was like revisiting old friends when I ran into them reading the related books after the DT.

One tip from my journey is avoid the urge to peek into the threads of the books your reading or haven't read. Not total spoilers, but sometimes you run into "hints" that you can see coming as you read the post titles and even other sections that are related. Again, this is just my experience. What I did around the second book is completely avoid the SKMB until I finished the book and then look at that forum section (sometimes even then a hint or two would creep up that I wished I didn't read).

But yea, basically just be careful where you click around and get ready for the ride of your life.

DO NOT READ THE ROAD TO THE DARK TOWER BEFORE YOU'VE READ ALL OF THE BOOKS IN THE SERIES, silly.

Hell no, there's no particular way....just dump em all in a big old pile-stir em with a stick...close your eyes and grab one...that'll be the best read ever...until you pick the next one...

I've put off reading the DT books, never could get into them. I recently obtained the audio books and now I've finished the first two and am well into the third. Needless to say I'm hooked, can't wait to finish the journey.

I have read and re read the DT books and just recently took the journey again via audiobooks. It was a totally new experience. Highly recommended no matter how many times one has read the books. Enjoy your audio journey.

I'm about to start my second Dark Tower journey. The first time I read them I really didn't know what King was all about. All of the connections and what-not, I mean. I can't wait to start!
I'm glad things happened the way they did. I pretty much started with the DT series and then read everything after (including a re-read of the books I read before starting DT), and now I'm going to go back to it.

Any way you roll with it, TimDeBoeck, will be amazing. I am very excited for you, sir!

Your English is just fine, by the way!

I read the DT books as they were published, have done numerous rereads, and have listened to the first four on audio (sadly, I don't have the others on audio...yet) Begin your journey - it will be like nothing you've ever experienced! I wouldn't worry about reading other books before reading DT - you can read them after, then when you do a reread of DT (and trust me, you will do a reread!), it will only add to the experience!! Enjoy!!!
