I'm not reading anything at the moment, but I just finished up Hearts in Atlantis. Even more than the master of horror, King is the master of bringing on the water-works, am I right??

Off with Book 6 of the Dark Tower series, though when

Susannah sprouted legs after arriving in New York
my "just go with it" attitude wavered like a thinny!

Have any of you read any of Elizabeth George's Inspector Lynley series of books? I read the first one, A Great Deliverance, which was really very good, and immediately bought the second in the series for my Kindle. Unfortunately, it wasn't nearly as good as the first, IMO. I just wondered if any of her later books are better. Some of the Amazon reviewers seem to think so.

Also came across a series of books with a character named Inspector Adam Dalgliesh by P.D. James and wanted to ask if anyone had read these. I thought, if I read them, I would picture our John D as the main character...keep him alive in my heart...since their names are similar.

I've read many of Elizabeth George's books. For me, it was hit or miss. Although I can't name actual books, there were storylines and characters that were good, and then there were ones that bored me beyond words. She has a lot out there. Just try to find the ones that look the most interesting to you and keep reading.

I've also read a lot of P.D. James and Adam Dalgliesh. I like him.

I just finished reading a Zombie anthology edited by Christopher Golden with a slew of great authors--21st Century Dead. Now, Zombies are not my monster of choice, I don't watch the Zombie shows or the Zombie movies (Although I did see Zombieland and liked that one). You may wonder if I don't like Zombie books, why did I choose one? Well, I belong to LibraryThing and they have a program on there where you can put in for free books in exchange for a review. I put in for this one because I like short story collections very much. I believe that a short story can tell you a lot about an author and his skill and style before you move onto their novels. An author's writing has to be wicked tight to pull off a really good short story.

Also, there were a number of authors in the bunch who I've read other stuff by them and really liked. I was curious how all these authors would interpret Zombies and make them their own.

I really like this group of stories. They included typical Zombie behavior and some very fun and unique views of same. I recommend it.

Thanks, Dana Jean. I felt exactly the same way about her first two books: book 1--wonderful story and characterization; book 2-so boring I actually groaned out loud while reading it!
I will give her another try! And will try some P.D. James as well.
