I never read the book nor did I see more than twenty minutes of the film, however when I was a little kid away at one of those high Sierra summer camps I re-told the story of "IT" to my fellow cabin mates over the period of four nights, after "lights out."
By the end of the fourth night everyone was thoroughly scared, except for me as I was the one doing the telling.
I cannot be sure how the actual story goes (I'm not much for horror), but I do know that the image of a killer and potentially alien/monster-ish clown was brilliant enough to enable me to spin some great yarn -- and all the kids in my cabin were thoroughly "wow'd" by the tale.
So thank you Mr. King for making me one of the more popular boys at camp!
I believe it was 'round about that time I first appreciated the power of storytelling, so thank you again for helping plant the seed which will hopefully grow into a tree containing many of my own books!
I just finished my second reading of your book "On Writing" -- and it's great! Thanks for writing that, it has been most helpful.
