Barlow - the Stupidity of "King" Vampire?

Maybe Barlow wanted to die and go out with a bang. This would address pretty much all of your analysis.

If you have read the DT novels, perhaps you could see/suspect the vampiric motivations are more than what is written in ancillary SK stories.

I'm thinking that by showing his stupidity, we are supposed to see how easy it is to become so egotistical that you can and will be defeated.
