I just came on here to ask the same thing after re reading the shining for the first time in ages.
My interpretation from the way Sai King describes George as 'insolently beautiful' and then goes onto mention his 'tight faded jeans' gave me the impression that George Hatfield had some feelings for Jack...and almost wonder whether Jack reciprocated and whether he was denying those feelings? I certainly thought from a teacher/student point of view it was an odd way to describe a teenage male character.
Or maybe I'm looking into things a bit too much...
