Default A passage that's driving me crazy; mistake or not?

When Eddie is getting ready to wheel Roland up the beach to the third door, Roland gets in the chair and says the following: "your life is in my hands now" and then asks Eddie if he wants to kill him. In order for this to make sense, I think that Roland should have said "my life is in your hands now". Was that really what Roland ment to say? Is this a mistake that only appears in the kindle version? I don't have the paper version to compare to. Or am I missing some deeper meaning?

Without looking at the book I will say, does dialogue always make complete sense when two people are talking.

Something to think about at least.

It says "Your life is in my hands now" in the printed version too...section 11, p 341 in my USA pb version. Section called "Reshuffle".

I think what he/Roland is trying to convey to Eddie, as he says later, "I kidnapped you." And so Eddie's life...his time and place in that world....are because of Roland...so Roland's continued existence is required for Eddie's continued existence.

Momone, I think Roland is referring to the fact that he's brought Eddie out of his world and to Roland's, and that (even though Eddie may not realize it), that he is becoming Eddie's dinh.

I think it means that since Eddie is now in Roland's world, Eddie's life is in Roland's hands. So if Eddie killed Roland, Eddie would have no one to rely on in a strange world.

Off the top of my head I'm pretty sure that is what Roland said. Wasn't this around the time Roland was extremely weak/delirious from the infection caused by losing his fingers? Eddie was angry at in effect being "kidnapped" by Roland so while he was weak this would have been the perfect time for Eddie to attempt an attack on Roland. However, without Roland there was no guarantee Eddie would ever make it back to where and when he came from. My basic understanding is that Roland was pointing this fact out to Eddie, to make him understand he may have been helping Roland but he was still in control and important to Eddie's survival. Been a while since I've read it, though, so my recollection may be wrong.

I agree with 1BachmanKing9. Dialogue does not always make sense. Consider it a ka-numdrum and move on.

Ok, I went back and re-read that passage with what you guys have said in mind. Now I see what you all mean. I think that is what Roland was doing and the passage does makes sense in that context. Thanks!

Thats the way I took it too.Sometimes (for me make that OFTEN) it helps to let it sink in a minute or even reread a particular passage...it really helps me...course I'm the brilliant genius who a few weeks ago made the striking remark about Gary Sinese playing the part of Larry Underwood in The Stand...baby can you dig your man? dont know who I must have been thinking played Stu Redmon....lol
