Eddie's age

I'm finally reading DT for the first time and I just finished Drawing of the Three.
And one thing reallly bugged me:
On a couple of occasions Eddie is said to be 21. Yet, later he tells Odetta that he's 23, that he was born in 1964 and Roland took him in 1987. I'm guessing this is just a mistake. Or did I miss something?
(sorry if this is already mentioned and answered in another thread, I'm afraid of possible spoilers so I only looked through very few of them)

I think Eddie as a 20-something is safe. I dunno....did his mother die young maybe and she was the one probably who kept track of his age for him. Me, I have to turn to the fingers, try to add up decades (you can do that when you get older--there's enough of them) and then I try to figure it like a math problem. Ma passed away, today....in 1987...was going to post in Srbo's thread but I sounded too, maudlin....is that a word? you bet.

there's some other issues....like presidents...but maybe that is attributed to Eddie's drug usage. He's 20-something for sure...

He was at first described as 21; then when Susannah gave her age as 26, she said he was three years younger than her. Then in W&G, Eddie referred to Jake as being almost 10 years younger than him. So if Jake was 11 at the time, he would have been more than 10 years younger than Eddie if Eddie were 23 and exactly 10 years younger if Eddie were 21. So, yeah, 20-something, for sure.
