Default Sitting alone in the dark watching

So here I am in California, sitting alone in the dark And watching the green mile on tv. I remember the south. And how well he captured it in the book. I remember reading about the peeling green paint on the green mile. I began reading the parts of this book when I was going for my phd in history in Indiana. At purdue. Every time the next book was published, there I would be.

I don't know why I am writing this, really, I was just hoping someone out there who was my age actually remembered the first time they first read a Stephen king book. My first was the shining. I know, so obvious right? But from that point on, my mom and I were hooked on this author. Anything he wrote, we would read.

I actually saw this movie before I read the book, and it became at that time my favorite movie of all time. At the time I had yet to read a SK story.

    Welcome!

We watched the Green Mile also last night, and we got into a discussion about the casting. The parts of John Coffey and Percy Wetmore were cast quite good to the characters portrayed in the book, but Tom Hanks didn’t quite fit the part of Paul Edgecomb in our opinion (but did play the part brilliantly). We threw around some actors names but couldn’t decide who would have fit the character better in regards to the book. The best we could come up with was a thinner version of Wilford Brimley.

My first SK book was “Four Past Midnight,” and remember it vividly because I didn’t know anything about the book at the time, and purchased it in the airport bookstore right before boarding my cross country flight to LA.

I loved The Green Mile. Both the book and movie. I'm sorry but Percy Wetmore got exactly what he deserved.

I first read 'Carrie'. Then I went on a week long research on telekinises. Very cool.

I thought I was the only one 'round here who read The Green Mile in its original serial form. One of my absolute favorites, once again the characters stole the story!!

Sure, I remember my first foray into the wilderness of all things King...I had Salem's Lot handed to me by my Dad-who said "Here, this looks like it'd be right up your alley!"...he knew what a Horror-hound I was, and man-from that point on-it was off to the races...

The Green Mile is an amazing story, on so many levels! Waiting for each installment was a little like waiting for the next Dark Tower book (but the wait was much shorter!) I thought the movie was excellent - well done, followed the story, great actors. A book to be read and reread, a movie to watch again and again!

I watched it last night too and I definitely remember waiting and buying each book of the series with part of the grocery money. I loved reading it a bit at a time and it's one of my favorite movies! The whole cast was excellent!

Did you start with The Langoliers while on your flight?

Yup. And I had always found it easy to sleep on long flights. But after reading The Langoliers I thought it might be a good idea to try and get some sleep, but wasn’t able to. I wonder why?
