Default The book helped me a lot

I'm almost 14 and I'm a beginer in writing. When I saw On Writing for the first time, I thought it was a kind of an autobiography. When I bougth it an read it to a certain point I thought "I found IT, man, without even lookin'for it". I know it will perfect my writing style. Im sure it will. I want to thank mr. King for writing this book. It realy helped me and many more writers, I know it within my heart!

Stephen King has a talent for teaching, and for speaking to us on our current level, not over our heads. I believe On Writing is a successful teaching aid for these reasons, because someone with his level of personal story-telling experience, expertise, knows what he's talking about, where the mistakes happen, why they are mistakes, and how to avoid them. A good teacher helps a person get where s/he needs to with as little suffering, confusion, and failure as possible, because the teacher is ready to help during the hard times, to help succeed. Like a loving parent determined to protect his child from falling, and when the child falls is there to help back up and heal.

Yes, On Writing is great, and you have a great advantage over me in that I didn't start writing until I was in my late 30's. Do what King says - read a lot and write a lot.
Not to be discouraging, but you'll never perfect your writing style. What fun would that be? I doubt if Mr. King would say he's perfected his own style. Just work at it, and you'll see constant improvement. Writing is great fun as well as a lot of work if you want to get better, but it's worth it. Go for it!

Make sure you keep everything you write, DVK. Not only will you be able to track your improvement, but, twenty years from now, you'll be able to maintain a relationship with today's you, if that makes any sense. You'll know who you were and where you came from, the value of which cannot be stated highly enough. Your writing helps shape and preserve your identity, so respect it, and care for your work. Enjoy the ride!
