Peter Straub's Mystery

Howdy.

I'm almost finished with my first Peter Straub book written entirely by him. It's titled Mystery and was published in 1990.

Anyone else read this? I was tempted to hold out for Ghost Story but couldn't pass up the first edition hardcover I saw at Dark Delicacies.

I'm liking it. I understand now why Black House was set in Wisconsin.

I know I've read it but I don't remember it at all. My memory is getting worse as I get older.

I definitely recommend Ghost Story. It's one of my favorites!

It involves a fictitious Caribbean island that has a definite American ex-pat presence on it, a lakeside resort area in Wisconsin, a young man who has a near-death experience, and an older gentleman with a once-famous sleuthing reputation. It's set mainly in the early 1960's, with flashbacks to the Twenties. Very interesting read.

Lily - thanks for the post, must try and read that. By the way, am just nearly finished "Ghost Story" and it's amazing, closest thing in quality terms to SK I have read in ages.
