    Default Struggling with Black House

So I am about 250 pages into Black House. My question for everyone is whether or not the violence tempers as the book continues. I have a really hard time dealing with books that discuss violence against children. And with Black House where it talks about children being abducted, dismembered, etc, I am just wondering if I should even continue it.

    ?

    Thanks,

Black House is violent, but by all means continue reading. I've only read it via audiobook so am not sure exactly what's going on by page 250, but if you continue on, I think you'll be satisfied by the end of the book. Have you read The Talisman? If not, I would suggest laying aside Black House until you do. Though reading about violence against children is difficult, there aren't many things that can make you cheer for the good guys quite as much as that can. And as is mentioned at some point in the book, the Fisherman was modeled after a true case of a child murderer whose last name was Fish.

You must finish it, you must! Otherwise those children will have died for nothing, bubba.

It's not pleasant subject matter, but the story is worth the queasy stomach and revolted soul...

So I finished BlackHouse on Saturday. I can't quite say that I liked it that much. It was OK, but really cumbersome to get through. While I enjoyed the ending, I am not sure that the end payoff was worth the struggle to get through the book. Definitely not a highlight for me overall. Since The Talisman is one of my favorite King books, this was a real letdown.

    Fonz,
You have to think of BH as it relates to Dark Tower...I agree that the Talisman was a better book!

I just finished Black House and enjoyed it very much. There are references mentioned about the Dark Tower, although I can't figure out the purpose. Does anyone have some suggestions?

Did you ever get back to it? It was a struggle in the beginning for me to get into it as well, but I say it turned out to be simply amazing!

I have to say that I had no problems getting into this book at all. I found it was a real page turner from the get go! I loved The Talisman because I loved the child Jack Sawyer. I loved Black House because I loved the adult Jack Sawyer and Henry was a wonderful character who complemented Jack Sawyer so well. I didn't find it a struggle at all. Not everyone has the same taste though. There are other books that many people think are among Mr. King's best that just don't do it for me either.
