    Default Cell: references to music!

I'm half through Cell which I couldn't read all the way the first time around ( still struggling, but more interested), and I was impressed by all those references in music that SK mentionned in the story. All those were on my old 45 and 33 records. It means that SK and I were listenning to the same music at some time in the past. I still have Baby Elephant Walk by Lawrence Welk music makers the same applies to Calcutta, Everybody loves somebody sometimes by Dean Martin, Fly me the moon by Tom Jones, and of course You light up my life by Debbie Boone. It's funny, in my book some of the song ref are translated into french title, whick looks rather funny, and some others are displayed in english. Maybe the french translator could not find a way to translate a title song into french, like for exemple Beth Midler's Wind beneath the wings. That one would have looked completly weird. Baby Elephant Walk was one my favourite tunes as a youngster, and I have seen the movie with John Wayne in Africa in which we hear the tune. Loved it.

Hatari, wasn't it? Always loved that tune, too. I enjoy the sK references to which I can relate because sometimes they seem very personal, somehow. His inclusion of Salvador Dali in Duma Key was very personal for me, for instance.

Don't give up on Cell. Remember who wrote it!

That damn song alone would turn you into a mindless cretin of a zombie...or maybe I think that after having had to spin it dozens of times in my full-time DJ days...

I agree that this particular song never got at me, but my mother loved it, so I played it just for her on my stereo chaine at that time. She even sang it, not even understanding a word of what it was about.

Yes Hatari was the title of the movie. I love safari movies and Africa movies btw. That one had fine music stuff in it.

heh heh!...yeah! I enjoyed the music in Cell. Even w/the translations, don't people know what is happening? I mean...don't the translations use the titles of the songs? In the language?

Baby Elephant Walk is what...comedic relief? Right?

    The other stuff...

This is the 42nd? anniversary of Woodstock....I was just a snot-nosed kid at the time, but I did see two '64 Chevy Impalas head-on on the back street. That was like way wild. I mean, both cars are the same color, right, a kind of maroon purple? And Woodstock is playing? On both car speakers? Right?

What are the odds. So, we're doing spin-outs and pullin wheelies on our banana bikes? Gloves hanging from the high-handlebars? I had this bitchin sissy-bar....banana seat and this bar that went way up past the back end of the seat? Too....at some point, we chopped out bikes.

We like cut the forks off a used bike and slid those forks onto the forks of our bikes? To make choppers?

And Woodstock was playing? And these two maroon Chevy Imapalas head-on on the back street. Dale Hodgers. Ha! I can't remember the other driver. Maybe a Fontaine. Both cars, maroon.

So yeah...the music is Cell was bitchin.
