Not really horror per se but sinister nonetheless.

The Halloween Theme is very effective. Carpenter - affectionately known in my circle as "One-Note Johnny" - uses a minimalist style that really suits his directing style. Proof that you don't need an entire orchestra to score a film.

Not a movie, but my favorite TV horror theme:

The treasure of a life is a measure of love and respect/The way you live, the gifts that you give/In the fullness of time/It's the only return that you expect

Thanks everybody for contributing horror film/TV themes, keep them coming...

Three classics not yet mentioned I will now add including,

The original Amityville Horror film theme is creepy, those kids singing softly and melodically sinister is real cool,

Friday the 13th has undeniably one of the most popular scare themes with that strange killer chant, Part 3-D had a dance beat added to give the music a third dimension as well,

And no list is complete without "The Ballad of Harry Warden" from My Bloody Valentine,

I just picked this (Mulhulland Drive) soundtrack up at a used bookstore and it's great!
