Default Odetta Holmes had Dissociative Personality Disorder. Not schizophrenia

Sorry for being a nit picking douche bag but while listening to The drawing of The Three on audio book years after completing this epic series for the first time i find myself bothered by the repetitive reference to Odetta being "schizophrenic". She clearly has a Multiple personality or "Dissociative Personality Disorder". A Schizo is someone whom can't keep track of their own thoughts and thinks in a "word salad" process. They have auditory hallucinations, they usually don't care much for how they appear as they lose awareness or care for their appearance. Anyways i'm off to the air show to buy some bikinis. Good night hula hoop

This seems like a strange thing to bother you. Odetta/Detta is never treated or examined by a professional in the field of psychology. References to her as a "schizophrenic" are made by Eddie Dean and later the woman herself. Given the time period in which the characters exist (terminology was not the same even in the field back then) and the fact that they wouldn't know the difference between someone who is schizophrenic and someone suffering from DPD, I think they can be forgiven for not knowing.

I've no doubt, at all, that Detta would disagree with any and all assessments on her state of mind.

Mothpockets is correct. I've never been sure whether King got it wrong, or whether he was allowing his characters to get it wrong as so many in real life do.

I mean no disrespect to King although I am a bit shocked he has hired a bodyguard to troll these forums. Read the book. All references to her condition clearly blame schizophrenia. It bothers me cause I know it would bother King as he is a stickler for detail. I just hope he changes this reference in the movies since a million anal people will roll their eyes and this small mistake may damage this great portion of the story. Was terminology different back then?... Nope nice try though. Honestly it's sloppy writing. oooooooooh yep i said it

Maybe he should write a book about Cancer and call it H.I.V

I just can't picture Eddie w/a Glenn Beck pipe, doing the professor, and uttering the phrase that includes the words multiple Dissociative Personality Disorder, just before Detta/Odetta beetch-slaps the pipe from his mouth--it's okay, it will be unlit anyway. Roland hears Eddie's argument, and he begins to grin even before Odetta/Detta beetch slaps Eddie. He prescribes one cup of white sugar, two teaspoons of black manassas, a quarter teaspoon of vanilla extract....all the major recipe books call for just this cure...

    ...designed to work for everyone...

Ummmm...maybe just call it a "blue funk" and be done with it?
