    Default Which one first?

I know it probably doesn't matter, but I was just curious to know if I should read this or The Stand first. Somebody told me that there is a character(s) from "Eyes" in The Stand, I have no idea if this is true or not. Opinions from anyone who've read both?

I don't think there is a correct way to read King. Both of the stories stand alone. That said, I've enjoyed the many times I've seen a character from one story in another one. It happens. There is a character w/the same name in both stories and in both, this character's flavor is consistent. Are they one and the same? I dunno. Maybe. Maybe not. Let us know what you think about them, hey?

    Hi,

Welcome to the MB, and keep posting!

They're very different books and the common character is Randall Flagg, which won't spoil either for you and he crops up in much of Sai King's canon.

In fact, the Wallkin' Dude crops up everywhere!

I think I would read Eyes of the Dragon first, although I think The Stand is the better book, but EotD isn't a typical King book (if indeed there is such a thing) because it was written for his 13 year old daughter.

But either way you've got two great stories - enjoy!

    Long days and pleasant nights

It's been a long time now, but I believe I read The Stand first. IMO you could read either one first and have no problem. They are both a realy good read. Enjoy!

I've read em both Ace, and it really doesn't matter...at least to me it didn't-I read The Stand when it was released, then Eyes, and actually in retrospect-think that was neater....choose your own path and let me know...

There is a character that appears in both stories, yet it doesn't really make a difference which order you read them in. Dependent on what SK books you have read you may have already came across this character. EotD is a very fast read, especially compared to The Stand, which is a lot longer, but I'm sure you can judge that yourself from the size of the books alone. I enjoy both stories, yet EotD is slightly more of an "immature" read--if that's the correct word--whereas The Stand is epic.
Happy reading, and welcome to the board.

I think so, too. I think it might give a feel of history for Flagg when The Stand is then read.

Thanks everyone, I figured it wouldnt really matter too much but i'll start with Eyes. The Stand seems like a pretty hefty read so i'll probably wait til I have a little more free time

What I'm finding with King is that the last book I read of his would be the first I'd recommend to someone else...

After reading those two, if you like them, move onto the Dark Tower Series.
